Follow in the footsteps of Jesus during an 11-day tour to the Holy Land in January 2015. Sponsored by U.S. Catholic  and Catholic Theological Union.

U.S. Catholic magazine and Catholic Theological Union (CTU) invite you to join us in an exciting new venture—our first joint pilgrimage to the Holy Land!

Our January 17-27, 2015 tour will be led by CTU’s noted scripture scholar and Jerusalem expert Franciscan Father Leslie J. Hoppe. Hoppe is not only the author of many outstanding books on the Old Testament and biblical archaeology (including: The Holy City: Jerusalem in the Theology of the Old Testament), he has participated in several archaeological projects in Upper Galilee and has served as the director of CTU’s fall study program in Jerusalem. Check out Hoppe’s “primer on the Old Testament” in this interview from the U.S. Catholic archives.

Joining us on the tour will also be U.S. Catholic’s popular and award-winning Testaments columnist Alice Camille, the author of many best-selling books on scripture, who will lead reflections, prayers, and discussions during the tour.

We will pray in Nazareth at the place where the "Word became flesh" through Mary’s "yes." We will visit the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem, walk around Manger Square, and visit Shepherd's Field. We will see the Mount of Beatitudes and take a boat tour on the Sea of Galilee. And we will retrace the steps of Jesus in Jerusalem: the Upper Room, Gethsemane, the Way of the Cross, Calvary, and the site of the Empty Tomb.

This unforgettable 11-day pilgrimage will include daily celebrations of Mass at many sites that were significant in Jesus’ life and countless opportunities to contemplate our Christian faith where it all began. We will also meet with Israelis and Palestinians and will pray for a just peace in the land where Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born!

Please join us on this extraordinary journey of faith and hope. And please consider organizing a group from your own parish, Bible study, or circle of friends to come with you. For a parish bulletin announcement for this pilgrimage, please click here.

Tour packages (incl. airfare, hotel, meals, and transportation) start at $3,190 (departing from New York) or $3,290 (departing from Chicago). For more information, please see the detailed brochure (with itinerary, pricing, terms and conditions, and enrollment form) here, or e-mail emundsm[at]
