Last Lenten efforts

With just a week of Lent left, here are some links to help you make the most of it.

I wish I knew that Catholic Relief Service's Operation Rice Bowl has recipes from all around the world for simple Lenten meals. I've eaten some rice and beans for simple meals this Lent but it would have been fun to try more of these recipes. I will have to do so after Lent too!

I include fish in my fast from meat all Lent long, but if you're eating fish, check out Monterey Bay Aquarium's seafood watch resource to find out which fish are environmentally friendly choices. And if you're trying to be more environmentally friendly, join the 914 Facebook fans on "Go green for Lent," brought to you by Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good.

Monday was World Water Day. Celebrate by checking out WASH for Lent (standing for Water, Sanatation, and Hygiene) and reading our story on water issues and the Bible.

If you're in Limirick, Ireland for Good Friday, you won't have to stick to water for the first time in years. A court ruled that pubs may open on Good Friday, traditionally one of two dry holy days in Ireland, because of a rugby match. The other dry day is Christmas.

Finally my favorite: There's an iPhone app that is a Lent Observance Tracker. It helps you keep track of what you give and what you give up!
