Happy International Women's Day [1]! It's kind of a big deal [2] around the world, even if not so much in the U.S. The theme of this year's celebration is "Empower Rural Women - End Hunger and Poverty." Catholic Relief Services takes a look at some stories of strength [3] from women across the world.

Here's a less awesome story from the New York Times about the effects of cutting funding for women's health [5] in Texas.
NETWORK is encouraging support of S.1925, or the "Violence Against Women Act," [6] which "creates and supports comprehensive, effective, and cost saving responses to the crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking."
