Great interview with Sean Dorrance Kelly of Harvard Philosophy Department and author of All Things Shining [1] on The Colbert Report last night.

Dorrance Kelly argues that we've lost the concept of the sacred in our culture, but we still have moments of knowing the sacred through events like the Super Bowl. He's hopeful that these small moments can build into something bigger, but Colbert puts it bluntly:

"That's the only example that is really resonating for me here, is that we've traded an all-knowing, all-loving, omnipotent, omnipresent, omnitemporal God for, you know, fourth and goal."

It echoes the sentiment of the Wisconsin man angry about Mass being canceled for the Super Bowl [7]. Is finding the sacred in the Super Bowl a good step or distracting?
