Go ask Sister

Inquiring minds want to know about the state of American women religious.

When the two-part investigation into U.S. women religious was announced in early 2009, reaction varied from "How dare they" to "It's about time." Many Catholics, however, were simply shocked and confused. "Sisters, you don't deserve an investigation. You deserve a medal," Managing Editor Bryan Cones wrote in the July issue of U.S. Catholic as speculation grew about the purpose and results of the Vatican's moves.

With many questions left unanswered, U.S. Catholic editors decided the magazine needed to seek out answers from women religious themselves. With this survey, we welcome you, the nuns and sisters of America, to share your views on your "quality of life," the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, and the investigations into both of these.

An article based on this survey will be published in the January 2010 issue of U.S. Catholic and will be accompanied by a survey of our readers on women religious. Please circulate this survey to other women religious and encourage them to participate by October 15, 2009. Thank you for your time and thoughts.

Not a woman religious? You can still share with us what you think about the women religious you know and the investigation into their quality of life at our Reader Survey, "How's your Sister?"

Survey of women religious closed

The survey closed on October 15, but the page remains active. The reporter compiling the survey has been overwhelmed (in a good way!) with the response, so we had to give it a deadline. We will be collecting response on our reader survey on women religious through the end of October.

Thank you for your interest!

Megan

Go ask sister's cares

It would be interesting to ask the laity how they have experienced the sisters/brothers through out their life.

Laity on women religious

Thanks Mike! You can share your thoughts here: http://www.uscatholic.org/sistersurvey. Just sisters, not brothers. I'll add a link on this page. Thanks for reminding me!

Unfortunately, when one is

Unfortunately, when one is honest one worries what will be the reprisals. I would hate to see my community or others punished for living with integrity...and yes, even the church will do that!

I find it more unfortunate

I find it more unfortunate that you have dedicated your life to Christ and His Church, and yet do not trust the integrity and leadership of that Church.

I think it is the hierarchy

I think it is the hierarchy who don't trust what we are doing.
