I think it's safe to say that the vernacular experiment has failed.
Give us back our heritage, thanks.

Why does the spirit of Vatican II generation have such a contempt for history? I'm proud of my Catholic heritage!

Vernacular has failed. Give us back our Latin.

Please listen to the words of the Mass. How could you get anything from it if it was in Latin? And reading out of a missal doesn't count.Been there done that. Am 76 and like it now. Please don't close the window that the Holy Spirit opened in 1962 with Vat2. If you are under 50 you don't know what it was like back then. We were so dumb. But that was all we knew. John XXXlll you really shook up the Vatican and vitalized the people of the church.

Jack,
With all due respect, if the people of the church were vitalized in 1970, then where were the vocations?

We are now turning a corner, and this is happening quicker in more conservative dioceses. I know many young priests and seminarians and they all, to a man, are looking forward to the newer translation. The future of the church is bright, but we need to put some polish on the lackluster prayers we've been using for 40 years.

If the prayers of the church are no different than the language on the street, then why go to church? Church is sacred, and everything about it should remind us that the Mass is special.

In Christ,
John, the Haskell Catholic

Apparently it's all about what we "like", and not the things that elevate our hearts to heaven.

I never understood why people would choose to worship God in the same language that they hear His name being cursed on a daily basis.

The "fruits" of the "spirit" of Vatcan II are manifest - dead vocations, dead missions, scandals, polyester nuns in pants, priestitutes, etc.

It all started with the do-as-you-please implementation of the vernacular liturgy.

The 60s are over. AND WE SHOULD ALL GET OVER THAT!

"Apparently it's all about what we "like", and not the things that elevate our hearts to heaven."

Well, in that case, then you shouldn't even be praying those items in Church per the words of Jesus himself:

"Be careful NOT to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have NO reward from your Father in heaven."So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the HYPOCRITES DO IN THE SYNAGOGUES and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward IN FULL. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be IN SECRET. Then your Father, who sees what is done IN SECRET, will reward you.

"And when you pray, DO NOT be like the hypocrites, for they LOVE TO PRAY standing IN THE SYNAGOGUES and on the street corners TO BE SEEN BY MEN. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward IN FULL. But WHEN YOU PRAY, go into YOUR ROOOM, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done IN SECRET, will reward you. And when you pray, DO NOT keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their MANY WORDS. DO NOT be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. "This, then, is HOW YOU SHOULD PRAY... (recites the Our Father)."

So stop doing what YOU like and perhaps listen to your Savior.

Peace.

Jack...if reading out of the Missal "doesn't count", then why does hearing the text "count"? When the Holy Spirit opened the window as you say...some new things came in and an awful lot flew out at the same time! And if what you say is true, then why do so many of the people out in the pews "follow along" in the Missalette even though the Mass is in English? I attend and serve at Masses in both English and Latin, and to be honest, after a few minutes I don't even have to think about which it is! It's much like watching a movie with subtitles...after a few minutes you forget that you are essentially "reading" the movie and simply translate one to the other.

Jack, I am less than half your age. I am only bringing this up because YOU did. While I appreciate your opinions, you absolutely have to respect ours. Your generation did so much to damage our church. You had your chance, now it's our turn. Let US decide what we should or shouldn't want.
