While I agree that the Catholic response to the immigration issue could certainly be stronger, when one thinks of "pro immigrant groups" in the U.S., Catholics are very high on that list. Many of us take a compassionate view on this issue provided that it is coupled with a requirement that immigrants learn our language so they can participate fully in the American dream, but most Catholics err on the side of compassion on this issue. This issue will probably heat up again once there is some kind of resolution on health care.
