Daily Links, May 10: In which everyone is a little suspicious of everyone else.

President Obama’s news yesterday that he personally supports same-sex marriage has prompted many reactions from faith leaders. Read here for what Cardinal Dolan has to say about the matter. The Guardian has an excellent graph representating current gay rights broken down by state.

And though we now are clear on Obama’s views on same-sex marriage, apparently people are still not convinced about the president’s true religion. (Sigh.)

We didn’t have to wait long for an answer to Scott Alessi’s hypothetical question of who would be the next group to come under scrutiny from the Catholic Church. Congrats if you guessed it would be the Girl Scouts! According to a letter from the bishops’ conference, the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth will investigate the Scouts’ “possible problematic relationships with other organizations” and various “problematic” program materials.

Remember the Vatican conference on stem cell research that was canceled in March? Apparently members of the Vatican’s bioethics advisory panel are calling for its board to resign for inviting controversial speakers to the conference. The letter suggesting resignation expressed concern that the Pontifical Academy for Life is “losing its full and pure commitment to the truth and its enthusiastic service to the unreduced magnificent church teaching on human life in its whole splendor.”

On our blog today, we asking questions as well: Does cutting public transit also cut access to church? And, are Democrats going to become the new pro-life party?

How is a ban on contraception likely to affect college students?

In order to help its struggling economy, Portugal (after consulting the Vatican) has decided to stop having holidays for Corpus Christi and All Saints’ Day. Apparently, some are left wondering how exactly this will help boost the economy.

And for some fun news and pictures not related to the church or involving suspicion: The Olympic torch was lit today in Olympia, Greece! It will travel throughout Greece this week before beginning its official journey to London for the Summer Games.
