LeBron James, role model

Uncategorized

Or how not to be one…

The Midwest is in a lather today about the defection of NBA superstar LeBron James jumping his Cleveland ship for Miami, rebuffing the Chicago Bulls desperate attempt to lure him to the Windy City. (As if we needed more insufferable egos.)

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Rick Telander hilariously and rightly pillories James for his self-absorbed "I needed to do what is best for LeBron James" nonsense as he ditched the Cavs: "I need a bath. I need a shower. I need a dip in the vermin tank."

What does this have to do with Catholicism? Well, I guess it can sometimes be a remedy for self-absorption so dense that it can prevent light from escaping. And sometimes it helps us remember that our gifts are not our own and ought to be used for the sake of others.

"I'm going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat." Seriously? Get a writer. Blech.
